Possessed by a Dark Warrior
A powerful warrior and commander of the dark elf legions, Bleu is a loyal and devoted male, and one who has never failed in anything—except one thing. Love. When an elusive female dragon shifter surfaces in Hell again, giving him a mission to hurl himself into, he gladly returns to his hunt for her and the deadly blade she stole from his prince seven centuries ago, but as he closes in on his prey, fate reveals she is far more than his enemy?

Having escaped from the black market arena and her life as a slave, Taryn sets her sights back on the task she began seven hundred years ago when her brother stole a precious sword, but in the three centuries she’s been a captive, everything has changed. Corrupted by a craving for power, her brother has become dangerously obsessed with finding the blade and using it to claim the ultimate treasure—the position of King of Hell.

Faced with having to end her beloved twin to stop him from bringing all of Hell to its knees before him, will Taryn be strong enough to use the very blade he seeks against him? And when Bleu finally catches his elusive prey, will he listen to his head as it demands he complete his mission or his heart as it demands he claim his eternal mate?

Excerpt
The mountains seemed endless, stretching as far as his eyes could see across one hundred and eighty degrees of his field of vision. Bleu stood high on a cragged ledge, his back to a black mountain that many in Hell would find forbidding, because it marked the border of the dragon realm. He could see a few flying into the realm, their jewel colours bright against the dull grey sky. He hadn’t lived in the time when dragons had been free to fly in the mortal realm, but he could easily imagine how majestic they would have appeared against a dazzling blue backdrop spotted with pale clouds.
Dragons had been allies of the elves once, so many millennia ago that the only proof they had of their friendship were tattered pieces of the ancient records of the elven kings and queens, scratched onto thick leather now so brittle they would break if someone dared to remove them from the delicate glass case that contained them in the castle.
The castle.
Bleu turned his gaze towards it, instinctively aware of which direction his home lay in, feeling the familiar tug in his gut that told him to return to it. He had business there, and he had never been one to ignore his instincts. They were rarely wrong, and right now they were blaring a warning at him to step back from the dragon realm and seek a safer course of action.
He needed a team if he was going to venture into the realm of dragons and dare to question them about one of their own kind.
It was too dangerous to head in alone.
Dragons were fiercely protective of their own kind, even those they knew had committed a crime that had given their species a black name in the language of the elves.
He didn’t fancy ending up as roasted elf, so he would return to the castle and form his team—the same trio of warriors that had been with him the last time he had hunted the female dragon.
He focused on his body, calling his portal, and green-purple light shimmered over the scales of his black armour. Darkness swallowed him and when it receded, he was standing in the bright sun-filled verdant courtyard of the castle.
It towered above him, a beautiful mixture of pale and dark stone quarried from the mountains, shaped to form tall towers topped with conical tiled roofs set on a series of large square buildings with balconies that ran across their length. The main building stood five storeys tall, and the thick towers rose to spear the darkening sky and added another six levels.
A warm breeze chased over the high walls surrounding the castle and rustled the leaves of the trees in the orchard around him, carrying the scent of their blooms. Nature embraced him again, a tender touch that soothed him after being surrounded by the darkness of the demon and dragon realms.
He began to relax and then tensed again when Prince Loren appeared right in front of him, his handsome face dark and his violet eyes flashing as he shoved his fingers through his neat blue-black hair and began to pace. His formal knee-length jacket flapped around his legs with each agitated stride across the pale gravel path that spread outwards from the portal, intersecting the lush grass that grew beneath the trees.
Something was wrong.
Wrong enough that his prince had left a council meeting to come straight to him.
Before he could ask his prince what was bothering him, Loren turned on him.
The dark crescents beneath his prince’s eyes concerned him and he took a step forwards, growing determined to find out what was worrying him and find a way to relieve his prince of whatever burden his shoulders held.
“Where have you been?” Loren said, a slight sombre edge to his voice as he halted before Bleu, his bright violet eyes searching Bleu’s. “You have failed to return to the castle since Vail came.”
There was a tone in those last three words that conveyed a wealth of hurt but relief too. Loren always sounded that way when speaking of his younger brother, but Bleu held no love for the mad prince himself, not since he had gone to war with Loren and the elf kingdom, and had decimated an entire legion of the army.
The legion Bleu had served in under Vail.
He had been one of only a handful of survivors.
He wasn’t sure he would ever be able to think well of Vail, not even after everything they had learned about the reasons he had attacked his own kind. The things he had seen Vail do were branded on his mind, seared on his soul, together with the deep pain he had caused Loren. Bleu couldn’t forgive him.
“It has been a lunar cycle… so I will ask again… where have you been, Bleu?”
A month?
He could only stare at Loren as that sank in. He had thought it had been a week at most since he had left the castle, intent on returning to the last place he had seen the dragon female and seeing if he could uncover any clues that might lead him to her.
A month.
“Did your disappearance and subsequent avoidance of your home have anything to do with Vail… because he has left with Rosalind.” There was a softer note to his prince’s voice now, a soothing one that had no effect on Bleu as it dawned on him that his leaving had in part been because of Vail’s sudden appearance.
But not because he despised Loren’s brother.
He rolled his shoulder in a casual shrug, trying to let the epiphany roll off him just as easily, but failing dismally. His mood blackened again, just as it had that night a month ago when he had learned another fool had fallen under the spell of a bond.
A male no one in their right mind could love had found someone who loved him, and fuck had it stung.
“Good for him,” Bleu muttered and turned to walk away.
“Answer me, Bleu,” Loren barked and he halted, freezing to the spot and aware of the danger he was in.
Loren rarely raised his voice, especially to him. When he did, he meant business, and right now his prince was throwing off vibes that warned he was liable to break with convention and throw him in the cells if he was disobedient. It would be a first. Bleu had mouthed off to him, had behaved with little respect at times, and never had his prince punished him.
Bleu slowly turned back to face him.
“Did you stay away because of Vail?” Loren whispered, a heartfelt plea for an answer that told Bleu his prince didn’t want to punish him this time either, but people were watching them closely, and they would expect Loren to do just that if Bleu showed an ounce of disrespect.
He shook his head. “No… Vail isn’t the reason I have been away from the castle.”
It was the truth.
Well, mostly the truth. Vail wasn’t the whole reason he had left or the reason why he had been away.
He had just been the last straw.
Seeing Vail bonded to his fated female on a day that had been Loren’s wedding day to his own mate Olivia, and had brought the happily mated couples of Sable and Thorne, and Bleu’s sister Iolanthe and her mate Kyter to the elf kingdom had hit Bleu hard.
He hadn’t really thought about his actions at the time. He hadn’t really considered why he had left or what he had been feeling. He’d had a pressing need to investigate the dragon and he had left to do just that.
But an entire month had passed, and the look in Loren’s eyes told him that he had worried him, that the tone Bleu had heard in his voice and the sombre edge to his eyes had nothing to do with Vail, and everything to do with him, and that Loren wanted answers now.
Bleu had none to give to him, at least none that answered the questions in Loren’s eyes, because he didn’t want to look too closely at his reasons for leaving.
Instead, he would give his prince a safer explanation for his behaviour.
“I tracked the dragon,” he said and Loren’s expression gained a curious edge and he stepped closer to Bleu. Bleu sighed and raked his fingers over his longer hair, preening it back from his face as he tried to figure out where to begin. He knew how important the sword was to Loren, and he had sworn to retrieve it, and now he felt he was on the verge of fulfilling that promise. “I believe she has returned to her own realm for some reason. Perhaps the dragons there are hiding her, or she has gone to see someone, or she believes she will be able to conceal herself again among her own kind. I only returned to assemble a team so I might track the dragon into her own realm.”
Loren began pacing again, his head bent and the thumb of his left hand playing on his lip. His prince had never been able to keep still when thinking. It drove the council of elders mad when he silently paced back and forth in front of his throne, and that often amused Bleu no end. Anything that pissed off the council was fantastic in his opinion. They were antiquated idiots who stuck firmly to the rules and had given his prince nothing but pain and heartache for the forty-two centuries he had been at war with Vail, constantly badgering him to kill his brother.
Bleu had been all for killing Vail, but he never had been able to bring himself to do it whenever they fought. He had always faltered when dealing the killing blow, aware of the devastating pain it would cause Loren if he took Vail’s life.
Now the council were probably giving Loren hell as he attempted to convince them to allow Vail back into the elf kingdom now that he had proven he had been nothing but a pawn, a puppet controlled by a dark witch, and was maddened by the terrible things he had done.
Bleu couldn’t see them agreeing to that, and he couldn’t see his prince giving up this time either. Loren was a stubborn bastard at times, especially where those he loved were concerned.
“I have experienced fleeting sensations.” Loren glanced across at him but didn’t slow his pacing, taking long strides across the path, only needing three to reach the grass before he had to turn back around.
His prince needed a bigger space to work off some of his tension. Bleu would have offered to spar with him, but the urge to pull his team together and head into the dragon realm was growing stronger, and the thought of delaying his departure was near painful. He had to get back to the dragon realm.
He had to find her.
“They are familiar… and it took me some time, but I have realised what they are. It is the sword.” Loren huffed and his lips twisted into a grim, self-reproaching smile. “I admit that it has taken me some time to decipher the sensation… because my connection to it is not as strong as Vail’s… but it has surfaced again. Perhaps the dragon has retrieved it from wherever she hid it?”
Bleu didn’t like the sound of that. They still didn’t know why the dragon had stolen it or whether she had any ill intentions. She could easily decimate an entire demon army with it. But if that had been her agenda, why would she have waited so long to carry it out?
Why had she hidden the sword?
He wanted to believe that she viewed the sword as treasure and only treasure, but there was still a part of him that feared she meant to use it, that she had been waiting for some reason. Dragons could see the future if they were born of a strong bloodline. Had she seen something in her future and had stolen the sword because of it, and had been waiting all this time for that future to come to pass?
Loren’s hand clapped down on Bleu’s shoulder, jerking him away from thoughts of the dragon and what might lie ahead.
“Hunt the dragon. Eliminate her. Retrieve that sword for me, Bleu.”
Bleu had the feeling his prince was more aware of his innermost feelings, the ones he had tried to bury deep and ignore, than he would like and was giving him a mission to focus on in order to take his mind off things.
To give him a purpose again.

Her Sinful Angel – Excerpt

Lucifer stood in his study in front of the middle of the three towering windows, his gaze fixed on the distant plateau. White light broke the darkness there, a sign that angels were travelling between his realm and the mortal one.
A world he hadn’t set foot in for millennia.
His golden gaze slid off to his left and downwards, towards the room where he had left the mortal female.
Her world.
He clasped his hands behind his back and studied the black stone floor. His black suit jacket stretched tight across his chest as he breathed slowly but steadily, his mind churning over everything he had learned about the woman in his custody.
He still didn’t know why Mihail had brought her to him, and he couldn’t help thinking that it was a trap. It was possible that the woman had been given instructions, orders that were buried so deep in her mind that she wouldn’t remember receiving them. Some angels possessed the power to manipulate weaker creatures in such a manner, and everything she had told him yesterday had made it clear that Mihail or another angel had tampered with her memories.
If she had been given orders, then he had to wait for the right event to trigger them before he could discover why Mihail had sent her.
Lucifer narrowed his gaze on the floor, his focus on the woman.
He didn’t think she was anything other than mortal, but it was entirely possible he was wrong about that. Some species could masquerade as mortals. Shifters in particular. It had been a very long time since he had encountered one from that species, long enough that he might not recognise them.
She could be a witch too.
But she didn’t feel powerful to him. Her strength was barely a drop in the ocean of his.
Was she using a spell to mask her power and muddle his ability to detect lies on her?
He shook his head at that.
She hadn’t lied to him when he had asked whether she could remember what had happened to her, but she had lied when she had told him that she couldn’t think of a reason why anyone would want to harm her or have her kidnapped. If she possessed the ability to conceal her lies, she would have hidden that one from him.
There had been a haunted edge to her bright peridot eyes as she had uttered that lie and a spike in her heart rate that had warned him that she had walked the same path as he had millennia ago—a path of pain and suffering.
Of betrayal.
A path he still walked now.
He didn’t know what had happened to her, and he didn’t want to know.
She wasn’t here so he could learn about her. She was here so he could discover Mihail’s plan and take the angel down once and for all.
Lucifer dragged his focus away from her and fixed it back on the plateau.
Mihail was up to something and he had to concentrate on discovering what that was.
His focus slipped, his acute senses drifting to pinpoint the woman again.
Who had betrayed her?
The first stirrings of anger warmed his heart, warning him to pull his thoughts away from not her but the betrayal she had suffered before it was too late and his mood degenerated.
All of Hell would suffer if it slipped his grasp and his temper flared, but even the knowledge of what he might do in a fit of rage wasn’t enough to stop him treading the dark path of his memories to a place he had tried to forget.
A time when he had trusted someone and they had betrayed him.
A time when he had been given no choice and had been powerless to stop his fall.
Lucifer curled his hands into fists, his emerging black claws cutting into his palms. He glared at the plateau as another white streak of light appeared and growled through his short fangs, the desire to teleport there and tear into the angels almost overwhelming him and shattering his fragile hold on his control.
He wanted to rip their wings from them just as his had been torn from him.
He wanted them to suffer the torture that he had, the agony of being cast from their home, slung into a bottomless and dark pit where only endless pain awaited them.
He wanted them to know how it felt to do all that their master asked of them, to carry out every terrible act and horrific crime regardless of how it had made them feel, only to have that same master betray them.
Lucifer snarled and slammed his left fist into the black wall beside the window. The stone shattered under the blow but he didn’t feel the pain that ricocheted up his arm. He felt only the burning rage that lived in his heart, the pain of a thousand times of having his wings torn from his back, a hundred thousand lashings that had peeled the flesh from his bones, and a million hours of wondering what he had done wrong.
Followed by a million more contemplating his revenge.
He hadn’t realised it at the time he had served Heaven, a loyal dog for his master, but he had been set on the path towards his fall from the moment he had been created. It had all been part of a plan to create balance between the three realms.
His master had shaped him, giving him duties and missions with little information and stating that he trusted him to interpret the missions and carry out the duties therein without aid. Lucifer had felt he had owned a position of power, a place at his master’s side, but in reality he had been given as little information as possible in order to drive him into committing sins.
He had wanted to please his master, and he had ended up breaking unknown rule after rule, committing sin after sin.
When he had felt something stirring inside him, a darkness that had been destroying the light, he had wanted to stop.
It was then that his master had dealt the final blow.
He had been exiled from Heaven and thrown into the pit.
At the time, the pit had been a place of nightmares, filled with vile creatures bent on destroying angels, drawn to their light by a ravenous hunger to extinguish it.
Centuries into his torture, Lucifer had realised the reason the pit had been created. It had been designed as a place of punishment for angels. That had given him false hope that he could escape the pit if he served his time.
He had survived the torture his captors had dealt, the abuse they had inflicted upon him, using him against his will. He had wallowed, tormented by every sin he had committed in his life serving his beloved master. He had writhed in agony as he had tried to fight and claw his way out of the darkness to stand on his feet again. He had wanted to repent so he would be welcomed back into the fold.
He had wanted to return home.
But it had become too much for him, and the darkness had been too strong.
After what had felt like an eternity of fighting, he had surrendered to it, allowing it to fill him and vanquish his softer feelings in order to end his suffering and stop the pain. His thoughts had turned from repenting to revenge.
When he had eventually seized control of the realm through brute and relentless force, he had ended up changing it without really thinking about what he had been doing.
He had hunted and destroyed most of the original inhabitants of Hell and sent the rest fleeing to the far corners of Hell, allowing the weaker breeds of demons to emerge from the shadows and take their place.
Demons who had worshipped him as their master.
Lucifer hadn’t realised the power he possessed as the ruler of Hell until Heaven had chosen to create a new race of angels to serve it. He had tainted the soul of the first angel during its creation, a mere drop of darkness that had spread through it and corrupted it.
He had seen the extent of his power in that moment and he had embraced it.
He had thought of nothing but revenge since then. Every act he had undertaken had been done with the intent of dealing a blow to Heaven as they had dealt a blow to him. He had begun to grow an army, welcoming the fallen angels into his fold and giving them power so they could destroy any of the remaining demons who sought to punish them for their sins and could carry out his orders in the mortal realm. He had shaped the weaker demons and sent them forth to corrupt the humans. He had done it all to strike a blow that would shake Heaven to its foundations.
Wars had followed, a struggle for power that was endless and beautiful.
Lucifer smiled grimly at the pleasing memories as power coursed through him, darkness that bled from his skin like smoke and writhed as shadows around his arms.
He pulled his fist from the wall and turned his palm towards him, splaying his fingers as he watched the black ribbons fluttering around them.
He had lived shrouded in darkness. A king in his realm. He had passed millennia without feeling a thing.
No trace of light left inside him.
Until Erin.
The day he had learned of his daughter’s existence, he had been filled with a new purpose.
A desire to use her to finally achieve his dream of bringing down Heaven.
And the day he had first set eyes on her, something else had happened to him, something he had been fighting to hide ever since.
A tiny spark of light had burst to life in the dark cold pit of his soul.
Lucifer pressed his hand to his chest, the soft fabric of his black jacket, tie and shirt cushioning his palm. He curled his fingers, digging the tips into the material as he felt that light inside him, tormenting him, growing despite his attempts to squash it out of existence. It refused to die though, kept spreading tiny tendrils through him, reaching ever outwards and gaining ground against the inky dark.
As it grew, it restored parts of him that were better off dead, softer emotions that had no place existing inside him or in his realm. Emotions that were dangerous to possess in Hell. There were still creatures here drawn to the light in angels.
If his legions learned of the light waging war inside him, if the demons learned of it, a battle for his throne would erupt.
Every creature with power in his realm would seek his head.
He growled from between clenched teeth and vowed that none would ever know of it. He made sure that his men never witnessed his moments with his daughter and grandson, and those were the only times he felt powerless against the light, unable to contain and control it.
He would find a way to expel that light from his soul again, because he would do anything to protect his position. He might not have asked for his role in this realm, but it was his to play now and he had come to like his life in Hell. This realm was his home, his everything, and no one would take that from him.
His golden gaze dropped back to the floor.
No one.
Any threat to his throne would be dealt with.
Painfully.
He had given the mortal female time to become accustomed to her situation, but now that time was up.
Now he would use the small sliver of trust she felt towards him and her attraction to him to his advantage.
The trick Mihail had used on her to scrub her memories would be wearing off. While she wouldn’t remember that she had been taken by an angel, she might remember if Mihail had said anything to her or taken her anywhere before bringing her to Lucifer’s fortress.
And now that Mihail’s power was fading, Lucifer could employ his own abilities to sift through her memories as she tried to recall the events that had brought her to him.
If he discovered that she wasn’t in on Mihail’s plan, he would set in motion his own one.
He would implant orders into her head, ones that Mihail would unwittingly trigger if he returned for her.
The little mortal would become the instrument of the angel’s fall.
And Lucifer would be waiting for him with open arms.

EXCERPT FROM TEMPTED BY FIRE BY ERIN KELLISON

Sending a woman was not a mistake. Whatever momentary confusion her name had caused, someone had arranged it. No question.
Thane guided her to the house’s study, a hand just skimming the back of her silk blouse. “Can I get you something to drink?”
He stopped at the bar cart to pour himself a glass of Scotch. He needed to give himself something to do. Strangers unsettled him, pumping his blood just a little too fast to be completely safe. And a woman… Well, he’d not allowed one close for years now.
She walked deeper into the study, standing in the center of the room just before the overlarge desk. One of her arms touched the briefcase hanging near her hip. Not quite nervous. As Bloodkin, she should know to be at the very least wary of an old dragon. We bite.
She was shorter than most dragon-born. She had clear brown eyes that were level and circumspect. Her light brown hair was too straight to be natural, a layer cut to frame her face. She had a pouty mouth, merely glossed. Her narrow skirt fell to the knee. And her blouse barely showed the notch between her collarbones. She was curvy, but she wasn’t here to seduce. Nevertheless, his fingertips itched to touch her. All of her.
What did they mean by throwing a Bloodkin woman at a dragon near his change? A distraction? A peace offering? For his wife and child? No.
“The Heolstor brothers seemed just as surprised when they met me,” she said.
“Were they?” He held up his Scotch to remind her of his offer.
“Oh, no, thank you,” she said as she looked around the study. It wasn’t his, so she’d learn nothing if she were here to spy.
“How did your meeting with Dr. Buckley go?” she asked.
“The remains of the woman and child belong to me.” He’d only allow this farce to play so long, abiding by the Bloodkin Assembly’s strictures on inter-kin conflicts. In this modern age, the Triad who controlled the Assembly had become absolute on maintaining secrecy about dragon matters. No fighting. No fire in the sky. “And the Heolstors know it, too.”
“I wouldn’t be surprised,” she said and returned her direct gaze to him. “Nevertheless, there is a process.”
How politic. She seemed too intelligent to allow herself to be a pawn.
She went on to describe the actions she’d taken with the university and the donors. When he requested documentation, she reached into her briefcase and produced it. Efficient. Prepared. If she was a pawn, she wasn’t a helpless one.
“I hope you can understand,” he said, “how offensive this process is when the remains being kept from me are that of my late wife and son.”
The space between her brows wrinkled in what seemed like momentary confusion. Thoughts flickered behind her eyes—she hadn’t known about his loss?—but she kept her composure. “I will do my utmost to bring it to a speedy—”
Thane slapped the desk in frustration and felt one of its legs give with a crash. “Who sent you?”
She blinked at the noise, startled, but she didn’t shrink. “My boss informed me that a Bloodkin had to handle this matter, and so here I am.”
“Who? A name. Who directed you to take on this mediation?” Her involvement had to have somehow been arranged by the Heolstors. Have this woman for the one we took from you. He was not so easily bought.
A knock sounded at the door.
Thane ignored it.
The door opened anyway.
“My lord, if I may—”
Thane inclined his head over his shoulder, snarling. “Get out.”
When he looked back at Emerson Clark, her gaze was full of censure, but still no fear. If anything, she was showing more grit. “My boss is Martin Fraser.”.
Thane was not so unaffected. “Fraser isn’t a Bloodkin name.”
“I’m not sure who’s Bloodkin and who’s not within the company. I just do my work as well as I can.”
Not sure who…? Unbelievable.
Of course, the Bloodkin had staff all over the world—lawyers and businessmen to manage concerns. Few were kin themselves, and those who were of the Blood, were young like this Emerson—a ridiculous name for a woman—and only there to educate themselves on how the world’s networks operated.
“Were you taught nothing as a child?” he spat.
The muscles in her clenched jaw twitched. Her eyes challenged him.
Fire and burn, how she got his blood up. Her scent was affecting him, too. All those modern products loaded with perfumes. He passed a knuckle over his mouth to breathe through it.
Her gaze dropped to his hand and lingered on his fingertips for a moment. These past years, the dragon growing emergent, his nails had grown black, thick, and slightly tapered.
She rolled her eyes.
Shock warred with a flare of his anger.
"I think I saw a fly.” She stepped back, putting space between them and exaggerating her movements as she looked around the room.
He couldn’t help himself. He laughed. What a little liar. Thane Ryce Ealdian had stalked this earth for over a thousand years, and she thought him a fool. Thought the signs of his imminent final shift were…what? An affectation?
“Are you Bloodkin or not?” he demanded.
“I am.”
“Are you sure?” She didn’t sound it and seemed utterly ignorant of their ways.
She swallowed hard and took a deep breath. “I apologize deeply for any offense I might have caused.”
He’d bet gold she was going to blame her “allergies” again.
“Really, the pollen is killing my eyes,” she said. “I’d better go.”
Ha!
She made a wide berth around him to get to the door. “Mr. Chandler has my contact information if you need me. And I’ll be in touch when I hear from Dr. Buckley.”
“Stay,” he commanded.
She opened the study door. “I’m sorry, I can’t. I have a dinner date.”
“With whom? One of the Heolstors? Ransom or Locke?”
She smiled politely. “No, neither. Rest assured, this has nothing to do with the Bloodkin.”
And then she had the gall to turn her back on him and start down the hallway to the front door.
The dragon stretched within him. His vision went hazy, breath hot. His gaze lingered on her tiny waist and the sway of her rounded hips.
“My lord—” Matthew clutched the hilt of his short sword, sheathed at his belt under his suit jacket. Did he think to use it on his lord to save her? Had the whole world gone mad?
“I’ll be in touch.” Emerson Clark opened the door and walked out.
A Bloodkin woman of age, with no protection but her intelligent eyes and that clever mouth.
Thane gaped after her. “What is she?”
Matthew shook his head. “I don’t know. Bait? Or a provocation?”
Meant to force his final shift into dragon? Thane growled. “The first casualty, more like.”
“My lord?”
Thane turned away from the sunlight, disgusted. “In what will most certainly become a war. Follow her. See that she gets wherever she’s going safely.”

Taken by a Dragon by Felicity Heaton
Possessed by a need to save a beautiful Amazon warrior from the vision he witnessed, Loke snatched her from the midst of the battle between the Third and Fifth realm of the demons, and carried her to his home deep in the black mountains of Hell to protect her. But as the fierce little female awakens, he finds she’s anything but grateful, and his dragon instincts roar to life to warn she might be more to him than an enemy—she might be his fated female.
Anais remembers meeting a handsome warrior in the heat of battle, a man who was her enemy but who looked at her with eyes that held dark heat and wicked promises. When she wakes to find that same dragon shifter has taken her captive, desire is the last thing on her mind, but escaping him to return to Archangel, the hunter organisation she works for, sounds less than appealing when he reveals the reason he took her—to stop her from dying.
Can Loke protect Anais from the dangers of his realm and how far will he go to save her from the future he keeps witnessing? Can Anais resist the fierce attraction that burns between them as hot as fire and stay true to Archangel or will her heart be taken by the dragon?

Excerpt

Anais kept her eyes closed, feigning sleep and struggling with her thoughts. She had to do this. It didn’t matter that she was beginning to feel she really was safe here, in this cave with Loke. It didn’t matter that she felt as if she was growing closer to her dragon companion, or that they had opened up to each other to a degree. All that mattered was returning to her world.
She didn’t belong here.
She needed to get back to Sable and the others and find out what had happened to them.
She needed to know they were all okay.
Even though the thought of leaving Loke made a recess of her heart ache.
She listened to Loke moving around the cave. He had already started the fire again. That had roused her from sleep. She mentally cursed herself for falling asleep when she had meant to just pretend. She had a faint sensation that she had been pretending, and that Loke had come to her, and then she had been dreaming.
Maybe she had dreamed it all.
The light touch of his fingers on her face. The way they gently stroked her cheek. The soft words he had murmured in his unfamiliar tongue.
It had all been a dream.
She felt sure of it.
He moved away and she cracked an eye open, watching him heading into the tunnels with his wooden torch. When the light from it disappeared, she made her move.
Anais sprang to her bare feet and ran to the mouth of the cave, flinching every time she trod on a pebble. She had taken her boots off last night to aid her in her recon mission. She had to move silently to avoid rousing Loke. Every non-human species she had met had heightened senses. Hearing being the most sensitive. She couldn’t have moved quietly enough in her boots. She was having enough trouble moving quietly with bare feet. Another pebble bit into the sole of her left one and she grimaced and hopped a few steps, giving it time to recover.
The ledge came into view and her heart rocketed, thundering against her chest. She was just going to have a look. That was all. There was no need to get nervous. Her palms sweated and she rubbed them on her black t-shirt. Just a glimpse and then she would go back to the fire. She just wanted to see what was out there.
She glanced back into the cave, afraid of Loke finding her gone. She didn’t want him to see what she was doing. She didn’t want him to be upset with her and she knew he would be. He would feel as if she had betrayed him by breaking her vow, and that didn’t sit right with her. Not anymore.
She slowed to a halt at the edge of the ledge and stared down at the dizzying drop to the sweeping cragged side of the black mountain below. It was at least three hundred feet. She swung her gaze left, studying the mountains that formed a wall around the valley.
Harsh black rock as far as her eyes could see.
Bleak against the dark grey sky of Hell
It was incredible. Formidable.
There was no way she was going to be able to climb up the mountain. It rose sharply from the cave’s ledge, rising up into a jagged peak. Other obsidian peaks met it further down, blending into the most dangerous set of mountains she had ever seen. Not even the world’s best climbers could scale them. She would have to go down into the valley.
Even that looked as if it was going to be easier said than done. Around a thousand feet down the mountain, the dark green trees began. They were strange and gnarled, with only a bare covering of leaves. Anais couldn’t help thinking that they looked like something right out of a movie, liable to come alive and capture her with their branches. Those branches were tangled together, forming a thick canopy. She couldn’t tell how tall the trees were from this height, or what the ground looked like.
Or whether there was ground down there and not a swamp filled with dangerous creatures just waiting to eat an unsuspecting mortal like her.
The trees seemed endless too. They covered the valley floor, from the furthest point she could see off to her left, to the end of her vision off to her right.
Anais realised something as she looked at the trees.
The valley had no open ends.
The black mountains rose to block it on all sides.
If she was going to leave, she was going to have to ascend one of the peaks and hope that she chose the right one. If she chose wrong, she could be faced with another valley, or worse.
Anais let thoughts of escape drift away.
There was no way to escape.
No need either.
She knew Loke better now and she felt sure that he would keep his promise. He would take her back to the Third Realm. If he didn’t, she would try her luck with the mountains and the forest that looked as if it might try to eat her. Until then, she would trust that he was going to fulfil his vow to her.
She stepped back from the ledge, determined to return to the fire before Loke found her gone.
A sudden rush of air swept down the mountainside, pushing her forwards. She grabbed her hair as it covered her face, wrestling the tangled golden ribbons back so she could see where she was going and wouldn’t fall off the ledge. Another blast of wind came.
Something clamped around her waist.
Anais gasped and tried to turn, sure that it was Loke behind her.
The black ground dropped away and she looked down instead, her eyes widening and a bolt of fear piercing her heart. Huge red scaly talons held her around her waist and legs, each thicker than her body. Glossy black claws pressed dangerously close to her skin and she did the only thing she could think of as her mind shut down and she realised with horror that it wasn’t Loke who had her.
She screamed.
The dragon bellowed in response to her shriek and shook her, rattling her right down to her bones and making her ache all over. She bit her tongue to stop herself from crying out and tried to prise the beast’s claws off her as her survival instincts kicked in. She would take a long drop to a swift death over being stolen by another dragon.
Anais attacked as best she could, alternating between punching the dragon’s talons and trying to get her fingers under its scales. She was going to yank the damned things off and make it hurt. The dragon kept flying, enormous dark red leathery wings beating the air, carrying them higher above the mountains.
The world beyond them came into view and Anais’s heart plummeted.
Nothing but more mountains and valleys for hundreds of miles.
If she had run away from Loke, she would have died out there. She never would have reached Sable and the others.
She wasn’t going to reach them now either.
She looked up at the huge red dragon that held her. The great beast kept its large golden eyes on the distance but opened its crocodilian jaw, revealing rows of deadly long white fangs as it roared again.
An answering roar came this time.
Loke.
Anais looked back towards the cave but saw only the barbed tip of the red dragon’s tail. The valley was so far away already, too distant for her to make anything out, but not far enough for her not to realise with disappointment that Loke wasn’t coming after her.
There was no blue dragon chasing them.
Anais ignored how her heart stung and went back to hitting the dragon’s paw, using both of her fists this time. She didn’t let up until the dragon dropped lower in the air as they swept over another mountain range.
Her hands fell to resting on the dragon’s talon as she stared down at the clearing below. Round stone huts filled most of the space, with what looked like an arena carved into the mountain beyond them and a large flat tract of land left open at the end of the village closest to her. Anais realised it was the dragon equivalent of a landing strip when the red beast holding her touched down there.
The second it set her down and released her, she turned on it, launching punches against anything she could reach. Two bare-chested men rushed forwards from a broad path between the thatched black stone huts and grabbed hold of her, pulling her away from the dragon. She fought them too, wrestling against their hold, even when she knew it was futile. They were far too strong for her.
The one to her left, a man with silver hair, muttered something in their language and his companion, a green-haired younger male, responded, a grin curving his lips and revealing sharp white teeth.
She stared at the dragon as it began to transform, waiting for it to turn into a red-haired man.
It was a woman.
A very beautiful woman with flame red hair.
Mahogany leather trousers formed over her legs and she twirled her hair up, tying it in a knot at the back of her head. Anais waited for another garment to appear over her ample breasts but nothing happened.
A golden dragon circled lazily above them, bright against the dark sky, and snorted. The woman looked up at the beast, her expression souring, and motioned for the men to follow her.
The men grunted and marched Anais into the village.
The moment they were clear of the landing strip, the golden dragon touched down.
She looked back at it and it stared right at her, its elliptical pupils stretching thin as it eyed her. It wasn’t as beautiful as Loke had been.
Her captor stormed ahead of her and her guards, still topless. When they entered the main area of the village, Anais realised that it wasn’t just her captor who was flashing her upper body. Every female she could see wore only trousers.
Every male she could see on the broad streets between the rows of huts stared at her, eyeing her in a way that made her skin crawl. She didn’t like how they looked at her. Fascinated. Awestruck. Hungry. When Loke looked at her that way, she found it appealing, but with these men, she only felt a deep need to flee.
To escape.
She had the feeling she had made a grave mistake by disobeying Loke and she was going to pay for it.
The men halted, jerking her to a stop with them, and she looked ahead of her, towards a larger round building that stood on a high solid black stone platform at the other end of an open square.
A golden-haired male lounged on an obsidian throne in front of the thatched hut, cragged mountains his grim backdrop. His large hands rested over the ornate ends of the arms of the throne and his deep bronze leathers stretched tight over long powerful legs that were spread, giving him a relaxed and easy-going appearance that his sharp golden gaze contradicted.
This man knew everything that was happening around him without even needing to look to confirm it.
Was he the dragon equivalent of a king?

Excerpt

Owen closed the door, rounded the compact car and slid into the driver’s seat. He twisted at the waist and put his bag on the back seat, and then put the key into the ignition and started the car. The engine growled to life and he flicked the switch for the lights, checked the road and pulled out. He tugged his seatbelt on as he drove and glanced across at Cait.
“Buckle up.” He waited to see she was doing as instructed, tugging the slim black belt across her chest, before returning his focus to the road.
It was quiet, the night drawing on, making it easy going as he navigated the short journey deep into an affluent neighbourhood near the centre of London.
Cait’s eyes grew wider by the moment as she stared out of the windows, taking in the buildings. When he drove through large black wrought iron gates, her eyes shot impossibly wide and she looked across at him. He kept his eyes on the road, unwilling to field her silent question, slowing the car as he drove through the rows of beautiful pale townhouses.
He turned left down another side road where the biggest houses were located and pulled the car into a reserved parking spot outside his one. Cait was still staring at him. He turned the engine off, undid his seatbelt, gathered his bag, and stepped out of the car.
She followed him a moment later, her eyebrows pinned high on her forehead as she finally looked away from him, her gaze settling on the huge four storey Georgian townhouse behind him.
“What you pictured?” he said before locking the car and turning his back on her. He strode towards the short black iron gate, opened it and glanced over his shoulder at her.
She hurried towards him, her eyes flitting between him and the house.
It was too big for him.
He used the sum total of five rooms out of the possible fourteen.
“This is yours?” She spoke at last, her gaze on the white townhouse, slowly drifting up the height of it.
Owen walked up the path, took the steps up to the covered porch with its Grecian columns, and unlocked the wide black wooden door. He pushed it open, proving it was his.
“It belongs to my family,” he said as way of an explanation when she looked at him again. “It costs a small fortune to run, but I haven’t been able to bring myself to part with it.”
“You grew up here.” It wasn’t a question. She looked him right in the eye as she said it, her expression sober, and he nodded.
It wasn’t often he met someone who could see straight through him as Cait could. Most people didn’t seem to understand him at all.
The humans he met who weren’t hunters, and therefore were unaware of the world of fae and demons that co-existed with theirs, weren’t worth his time. He had nothing he could talk about with them, not as normal people did. He couldn’t gripe about his work week over a beer with a buddy. The hunters avoided him because he wasn’t aligned with any of the organisations they worked for and only exchanged information when it suited them.
The fae and demons preferred to keep him at arm’s length because of his profession.
The only people he could really talk to and who had ever understood him were his family, and those who had been closest to him were dead now. He had a handful of relatives remaining, mostly from his mother’s side, and he rarely saw them.
“You live here alone.” Cait’s soft voice drew him out of his thoughts and he sighed as he looked at her where she now stood on the porch beside him, close enough that he could smell her sweet perfume on the night breeze.
He nodded again. “I keep most of the rooms closed and use just the ones I need… bathroom, bedroom… living room… kitchen. I did make one of the other reception rooms into a gym and training room.”
She looked as if she was on the verge of saying it sounded lonely, so he turned his back on her, stepped into the hall and switched on the lights. Thankfully, she took the hint and remained silent as she entered behind him and closed the door.
Owen locked it and pocketed his keys. “Come on. I’ll get you settled in the living room.”
He led the way up the wooden staircase to the first floor and the large pale blue room he used for his living room. He grimaced as he realised he had left it in a worse state than he had thought.
Cait drifted past him before he could say anything in warning, a twinkle in her eyes as they danced over all of the weapons spread across the large oak table on the left side of the room, and all the knickknacks he had left strewn across the square wooden coffee table nestled in the U of his three black leather couches in front of the fireplace.
She ambled around the room and he watched her as she allowed her fingers to drift over a few items on the coffee table and checked out some of his weapons.
“It looks very much as I had expected in here.” She lifted her eyes away from the crossbow she held and smiled across the room at him. “I imagined weapons and books.”
She looked around at the stacked bookcases that lined the wall to his right between the tall sash windows and the one behind him, and then down at the sheets of paper, notepads, and newspapers stacked haphazardly on a smaller coffee table beside an armchair.
“Although… it has an air of bachelor about it too.” Her smile teased him and he shrugged.
She hadn’t seen his bedroom.
If she thought this room looked like a bachelor owned it, she was in for a shock if she set eyes on his inner sanctum.
Her blue eyes drifted over the couches and then roamed back to him, gaining a dark edge of desire that set his pulse pounding and left him feeling she might just want to see that inner sanctum.
He was damned if she was going to see it as it was though.
He wasn’t sure how hellcats lived, or what accommodation they were used to, but he was fairly certain that as a woman she wasn’t impressed by clothes strewn across the floor, unmade beds, and several empty take out cartons, and that was exactly what his bedroom contained.
“You seem to favour magic.” Cait set the crossbow down and Owen stared at her, his heart pounding for a different reason as he took in what she had said. When she frowned and gestured to all the knickknacks covering the coffee table, his gaze leaped there and his heart settled. “The items… they’re magic aren’t they?”
Owen quickly nodded. “I get them in the fae town nearby. Some I use, others are just part of a collection.”
He backed towards the door.
“You like magic?” She looked at him again.
Owen took another step backwards and gave a noncommittal shrug in answer.
“I have to get changed and get some stuff together. Make yourself comfortable.”
He turned and walked out of the room, feeling her gaze boring into his back, intense and focused, as if she was trying to strip away the layers of his defences to uncover a truth he preferred to keep hidden.
A secret he’d had for most of his life and had kept from his father.
A secret only one living person in this world knew.
